Marie Oliver(nee Daigle) was born in Cocagne, NB. She was trained as a teacher and began her teaching career and also raised her family in Bathurst, NB. She pursued her interest in art when she took an oil painting class with Joyce Johnson in the Miramichi many years ago. Through the years she continued her art education with various teachers in many mediums and eventually became a teacher of oil and acrylic painting at the Bay Breeze Art Gallery in Bathurst. She has been an active member of the Bathurst Art Society and has served on the executive in several positions in the past.
In 2008, Marie fulfilled a lifelong desire by embarking on her first of five missions trips to the Dominican Republic. There she met Phil and Donna Williams, founders of Servant’s Heart Ministries(SHM) and it was their dedication to care for the poor of the Dominican Republic and Haiti, that inspired her tireless devotion to their ministry of outreach in the Caribbean. She is the member of Team Esperanza and uses her creativity and artistry in support of their ongoing fundraising efforts.
Upon returning from a mission trip in 2010, Marie began painting the images of the people, landscapes and buildings she became familiar with while in the Dominican Republic. Her work was shown and for sale at the Bay Breeze Art Gallery with proceeds from the sale of her paintings going to the following year’s mission trip. She continues to work in support of SHM through child sponsorship and fundraising.
