In 2017 the City of Bathurst invited local artists, members of the Bathurst Art Society, to paint city benches. Each bench was sponsored by a local business or family in honour of someone special; sponsors covered the cost of paint and artist fees. More benches were painted in 2018, and in 2022 several weather-beaten benches were refurbished and restored by local artists.
